Bloco is a Brazilian, community-driven carnival sound built for the street: a moving percussion battery of surdos, caixas, repiques and tamborins pushing contagious call-and-response chants that everyone can sing. It’s rooted in samba and marcha traditions, but many blocos fold in regional flavors—Afro-Brazilian rhythms, funk pulses, and the swing of Pará and the Northeast—so the groove can shift from classic parade cadence to bass-heavy, dance-ready heat.
